How it all started...
In 1928 a group of sixty individuals began to hold worship services in what was known as Sower's Hall in North Apollo, Pa. At the time our nation was experiencing the stock market crash and the depression. In 1930 the church erected a wooden tabernacle with a potbellied stove in the middle. The building was located on Wilson Ave. In 1932 this structure was torn down and replaced by a wooden formed structure on 2nd Ave. This facility although modest, served the congregation well until 1942.
Expanding the vision...
In 1941 at the corner of Second and Wilson a new brick structure was erected and in 1942 the church building was dedicated. In 1976 a education and fellowship wing was constructed at the site. As the congregation continued to grow in number a decision was made to once again relocate to a new building that included a sanctuary and educational wing. The church would maintain 2nd and Wilson facility as an office space, fellowship and gym and meeting space for the women's quilting ministry until 1994 . In 1994 a Family Life Center was built at the current location. It includes office space, a gym and classrooms. In 2018 a new lobby and children's wing was also constructed.
Where we are headed...
While the focus on this page has been the progression of our ministry facilities, that is not the focus of the North Apollo Church of God. We have always viewed ministry structures as tools to facilitate our mission, not the mission itself. The mission has always been about being and making disciples of Christ. One thing our facility history does reveal is that it is in the DNA of this congregation to adapt, change, and give sacrificially to fulfill our God-given mission. While we may never build another building, we are committed to joining God in what He is doing to build His kingdom!
